Redmi 9A with MediaTek Helio G25 SoC launched in India for ₹6,799 (~$93)

Xiaomi is flooding the Indian market with Redmi 9 variants, offering users key choice options at a wide price level. The barrage started with the Redmi 9 Prime (rebranded global Redmi 9), followed by the Redmi 9 (rebranded Redmi 9C). Now, we have the Redmi 9A, which thankfully does not add to the confusion as it retains the branding that is being used globally. The Redmi 9A was launched in late June 2020, and now, it has made its way to the Indian market.

The Redmi 9A retains its humble characteristics in its entirety from its global counterpart, but that is alright because this is not a phone that is picked up by people who purchase flagships. Instead, the phone targets first-time smartphone adopters (which remain a sizeable number in regions like India) as well as consumers on a tight budget.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has also pushed sectors like education to be handled completely online, and a basic smartphone like this makes sense to be given to a growing kid for these limited purposes. Price competitiveness matters much more than pure specifications in this case, and the Redmi 9A has managed to handle both of those deftly.

Pricing and Availability

The Redmi 9A will be available in three color variants in India: Nature Green, Sea Blue, and Midnight Black. The phone will cost ₹6,799 (~$93) for the 2GB + 32GB variant, and ₹7,499 (~$102) for the 3GB + 32GB variant. The phone goes on sale across mi.com, Amazon India, Mi Home, and Mi Studios starting from September 4, 2020.

Xiaomi also launched the new Redmi Earphones alongside this phone.

These wired earphones make use of the 3.5mm headphone jack and will be available for ₹399 from September 7, 2020, across the abovementioned channels and Flipkart.
